A Walmart spokesman said the retailer was “aware of the situation” and was “working to find out what happened.”
“The Walmart team is in close contact with the store and is working with the local authorities,” the company said in a statement.
“We’re committed to providing a safe environment for our associates and customers.”
Walmart also issued a statement on social media saying: “We are aware of the incident and are working to find a solution.
We’re committed the safety of our associates, our customers and our communities.
We continue to take the safety and security of our guests and associates seriously.
Walmart has an active and productive team dedicated to working with local authorities to ensure that we continue to serve our customers.”
The incident comes after two Walmart employees were arrested on suspicion of stealing more than $3,000 from a store in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on Monday.
The Walmart spokesman told Reuters the company was “trying to work with the authorities and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
“We are doing everything we can to assist with any investigation, to help our associates who are involved and help them with their criminal investigation,” the spokesman said.
A Walmart spokesman in Denver said: “A Walmart store in Denver was closed on Tuesday due to a security incident.”
A Facebook post by a Walmart worker who was in the store on Monday said he had to remove two security cameras.
The company is not the only retailer that has been affected by the recent unrest.
In the US, a Walmart in Pennsylvania on Monday was temporarily closed due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.
The outbreak has prompted a nationwide shortage of food and other essentials, including medicine and cleaning supplies.
